A UK first: John G Russell and Scania to thoroughly test the viability of FCEV in day-to-day operations

Glasgow-based John G Russell (Transport) Ltd has taken ownership of three prototype Scania hydrogen fuel-cell trucks, which will be the first FCEVs to go into full real-world operational testing on UK roads.

Scottish transport and logistics company John G Russell (Transport) Ltd will become one of the first operators to put hydrogen fuel-cell electric vehicles (FCEV) into its daily operations on UK roads, in collaboration with Scania.

The announcement comes as the Glasgow-based firm officially took ownership of three prototype FCEV vehicles at Scania's flagship service branch in Scotland, Eurocentral.

A milestone for HGV decarbonisation

The occasion marks an important milestone in the UK's HGV decarbonisation journey, as the three Scania trucks will become the first fuel cell trucks to go into full real-world operational testing on UK roads.

Part of the ZENFreight project

The vehicles form part of the ZENFreight project, which is part of the Zero Emission HGVs & Infrastructure Demonstrator programme (ZEHID), funded by the Department for Transport and delivered in partnership by Innovate UK.
