Teignbridge reduces carbon emissions with electric fleet from SFS
Teignbridge District Council has cut carbon emissions by 58 tonnes per year with a new fleet of electric vehicles, marking a major step towards its net zero and sustainability goals.

Teignbridge District Council has made a significant step towards net zero emissions and improving its sustainability with the arrival of a new fleet of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) provided by its fleet and workshop partner, Specialist Fleet Services Ltd (SFS).

The new EV fleet comprises a combination of Ford E-Transit tippers and Vauxhall Vivaro E-Prime vans and will reduce the council’s carbon emissions by 58 tonnes per annum.

The vehicles are part of the council’s ongoing contract hire agreement with SFS, involving the supply of 56 vehicles, including Refuse Collection Vehicles, kerbside recycling vehicles, vans, and a sweeper for street cleansing.

Cllr Peter Williams, Executive Member for Environmental Services, said:

“Our waste, recycling, parking, and enforcement teams are proud to lead by example by adopting these new vehicles. Together, we can drive towards a greener, more sustainable future for Teignbridge.”

Bob Sweetland, Managing Director, SFS, said:

“This new fleet is helping Teignbridge District Council to achieve climate action targets and enhance its sustainability. Over the past 20 years we have worked closely with the council to help improve the efficiency of its fleet operations and we are pleased to be able to include the latest alternative fuel technology.”

SFS has an extensive track record in delivering fleet and workshop management solutions to local authorities and currently operates a network of 13 workshops across the UK, 9 of which are based at council depots. The company also operates its own specialist vehicle hire division, CTS Hire, for the provision of short to medium-term municipal vehicles.
