Warburtons takes delivery of first Yutong TE7 7.5t electric truck

Warburtons has taken delivery of its first Yutong TE7 7.5t electric truck from Pelican Electric Trucks, the first of seven ordered as it works to electrify its 170-strong fleet of 7.5-tonne vehicles.

Warburtons, the UK's largest bakery brand, has taken delivery of its first Yutong TE7 7.5t electric truck from Pelican Electric Trucks, marking a significant milestone in the company's plans to electrify its 170-strong fleet of 7.5-tonne vehicles.

The first of seven Yutong TE7 trucks ordered by Warburtons has now been handed over at the company's Wakefield depot and will begin delivering fresh bakery products to stores across Yorkshire.

The delivery follows a successful trial of the TE7 earlier this year and represents the next stage in Warburtons' strategic programme to reduce emissions from its transport operations. The second vehicle is due to join the fleet shortly.

Warburtons has selected the 132kWh battery version of the TE7, offering a range of up to 180 miles on a single charge.

Steven Gray, Head of Transport at Warburtons, said:

"We are delighted to see the first of our Yutong TE7 trucks arrive and to begin putting it to work. We have worked closely with the team at Pelican throughout the trial process, and the vehicle has demonstrated that electric can be a practical solution for our operational requirements."

Expanding an established BEV fleet

The Yutong vehicles represent an expansion of Warburtons battery electric vehicle (BEV) fleet, which has been in operation since 2021, supporting the company's ongoing transition towards lower-carbon transport. Alongside a significant fleet of CNG tractors, the BEV fleet is playing a key role in decarbonising Warburtons transport operations and contributing to its wider responsible business strategy.

The truck body has been completed in the UK by PPS Commercial in Bury, who are building the truck bodies, and Hilton Docker in Littleborough, Greater Manchester, who are collaborating with PPS to develop a full aerodynamic kit designed to further improve efficiency and extend vehicle range.

David Watts, Pelican Electric Truck Sales Manager, said:

"It's fantastic to see the first TE7 delivered to Warburtons following the successful trial earlier this year. The 7.5t sector is ideally suited to electrification, particularly for the urban and regional delivery work these vehicles undertake."

Built for urban and regional distribution

The Yutong TE7 uses proven Yutong electric vehicle technology and is designed specifically for the demands of urban and regional distribution. The 7.5t electric truck is available with 100kWh and 132kWh battery options, offering a range of up to 180 miles.

The delivery reinforces Pelican Electric Truck's commitment to supporting UK operators as they transition to electric commercial vehicles, combining proven technology with UK-based body building, technical expertise and aftersales support.
