In March 2022, FSEW embarked on a mission to dramatically decarbonise road freight by 2025. Today, it has completed that mission, by removing its final four diesel trucks from its fleet and replacing them with six new IVECO S-Way CNG trucks.
It’s 40-strong fleet of HGVs now includes 35 IVECO S-Way Natural Gas trucks, all of which cover over 110,000 miles per year, and offer a reduction in CO2 of up to 95% versus an equivalent diesel vehicle when run on biomethane. Since receiving its first CNG truck in 2022, the FSEW fleet has covered over 6,700,000 miles using natural gas, which has saved approximately 8,500 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
Managing Director, Goeff Tomlinson, said of FSEW’s decarbonisation journey: “We took on the mission of decarbonising our fleet after I read in a newspaper that Cardiff was the fourth-most polluted city in the UK - that was a wake-up call for me. We started decarbonising our fleet in March 2022, and I’m very happy that we’ve now reached our target.”
IVECO offers natural gas engines across its range, ensuring there is a low-carbon option for every mission.
Speaking about the fleet of IVECO S-Way Natural Gas trucks, Geoff Tomlinson said: “We run 35 of these trucks for a reason! They’re comfortable, reliable, and the CNG engine produces power on par with its diesel counterparts. We have a CNG refuelling station a stone’s throw from our depot, so it really is a no-brainer for us to keep using these trucks.”
